You've seen the infomercials on TV. Anything from how to buy real estate for no money down, to Magic Bullet blenders, to exercise equipment, to skin treatments.

The whole purpose is of an infomercial is to get you excited is to "want something and want it now" something you hadn't even thought of an hour ago.

"And if you order within the next 20 minutes, we'll throw in ..... But wait, there's more ...... Call now operators are standing by"

But before you pick up the phone, go to your computer and check eBay. You already know that eBay is a popular place to buy and sell stuff. It is a fabulous place to find those infomercial and other "As Seen on TV" items they've got you psyched up about.

There are different types of sellers you can buy from.

You have resellers and discounters who sell the exact same item Brand New - Never opened.

You have ordinary people who bought the product and then went, "what was I thinking?" and have the product brand new, still in the box. (Or maybe they got two of them for their birthday).

You have other customers who used the product and decided it they didn't want it.

For information products -- like how to start an internet business or how to trade in futures -- most people never use what they buy.

Some sellers list the things as an auction item -- where you bid on it. Others have a "Buy it Now" price where you can get it right away.

Think of any product you've seen on TV and go to eBay and check it out.

P.S. It's also a great place to find replacement parts for the things already have.

There are several reasons why you may want to look at Auctions when considering vacation plans.

1. You know the information is current. Most Online Auctions run 7 days. 10 days at the most.

2. Bargains. Because most people don't think of looking at online auctions for travel deals, the number of bidders is frequently low.

3. You can sometimes find desperate sellers. Sometimes people book their flights, cruises, vacation packages, etc. well in advance. But something happens where they need to cancel and can't get a refund. (could be financial, illness in the family, job situation that came up, anything). You can solve that person's problems and get a hefty discount.

4. Bed & Breakfasts, Hotels, and other lodging establishments will sometimes deeply discount rooms at certain times, rather than have the room go empty.

5. Options, while you won't have the options like a travel site or agent would, you may find places to go you may not have considered or bargains at places you would have gone anyway.

An often overlooked source of travel bargains is online auctions.

You can find fabulous deals on Romantic Getaways, Timeshares, Cruises, Vacation Rentals, Bed & Breakfasts, Airlines, Vacation Packages with Air, Vacation Packages without Air.

Some will be from resorts themselves. Some will be airline vouchers that have an expiration date that people want to sell because they can't use them in time. Some will be Vacation Packages sold as fund raisers from non-profit agencies.

The cheapest ones will be from companies which require you to attend a 90 minute Timeshare sales meeting (often these can be high pressure things -- you may want to leave your credit card and check book elsewhere).

With auction sites you can check the Feedback Rating of the seller and read the feedback from other buyers (highly recommended you do that).

1000 TV Channels on Your Computer ??

I saw the ad. Oh boy, I thought. First of all, I'm cheap. Secondly I don't watch much TV. My rabbit ears get the major networks including Fox, plus two public TV stations. But it would would be nice to once in a while get the Discovery and the Disney channel and the like.

One time software purchase and no other fees. Well fortunately I did some checking around the internet. Sorry, no it is not the same as Cable TV. What you get is a directory of webcasts links from around the world with a bookmark system so you can find your favorite channels again.

Don't send money. Instead go to World Wide Internet TV http://www.wwitv.com/ . It is free (same type of channels as in the paid listings). As of today they have 1704 online TV stations listed. There are college broadcasts, local, government, religious stations, news, regional sports, music, cultural stations, and even watch NASA live.

No Discovery channel- scratch that they do have a webcast. Comedy Central Station has funny video clips. Check out AFTV (USA) for old movies.

Not the same as Satellite TV. But if you want news from New Orleans - you got it. If you have relatives in New Zealand or are planning to visit there, you can find out what's happening. Want to brush up on your Russian. Japanese, Vietnamese or whatever? There are stations from around the world.

Oh and yes, it is free.

Transfer VHS to DVD or CD

There are three ways that I know of (besides hiring someone) to transfer from your VCR to Digital format so that they can be either viewed on your computer, the internet or on DVD. You can use these same methods to transfer from any analog source such as camcorder to your computer.

With the following will work with most PCs made in the last six years. But remember that video takes up a lot of space on your hard drive. So you should have 4GB free to play around in. You can free up hard drive space by storing your video clips on CD or DVD once you're done editing them.

1. Using a digital camcorder as a converter. Check your camcorder owners manual. ALERT: If your owner's manual cover's two or more models, make sure the information pertains to your model. Sometimes only the higher end (more features) models will do this.

2. Check your computer. It may allow audio and video input jacks. These are the same size round holes as for the microphone and headset jacks but are specific for video or audio line in. Not all computers will have them. Mine has them on the back of the tower. If I had known this I would not have bought a converter.

You need software. My computer came with Windows Movie Maker included free. If you don't have that you can check at Microsoft.com or go to www.downloads.com and search for "movie editor". Downloads has free and / or trial versions of many kinds of programs.

3. Using a Converter. While most converters cost anywhere from $100 to several hundred dollars, I found one closer to $50.00. It's DVDXpress from ADS Tech. It is for PC only, not Mac. As with all devices check to make sure your system meets the basic PC requirements. At this writing the DVDXpress lists for $150.75, but I found it here for $49.95.

The DVDXpress is simple to set up. It comes with CapWiz3.5 and MovieFactory 3. Frankly I prefer using Windows Movie Maker for editing my clips.

ALERT: If you own an analog camcorder, you do NOT need to go out and buy a digital camcorder in order to make DVDs or internet videos. With any of the above methods you can record directly off your camera.

ALERT: SAVING from Windows Movie Maker. I made a video and tried to upload it to Google films. It would not accept my format which was .MSWMM not .wmv or the other acceptable formats. Frustrated I searched the internet until I found a forum with dozens of posts from people having the same problem. Then I reached a post which began, "IDIOTS !!!!!"

Problem solved. When you open the File menu you will find that Ctrl+S saves it a a Movie Maker Project .MSWMM. Ctrl+P brings up options of saving it to CD, DVD, e-mail, your computer, directly to the internet, or to your camcorder tape. This will be the .wmv file.
